Sports - NFL Mock Draft

Football is almost here!  It's just a matter of time before the season begins.  The first step was Free Agency, the second was the schedule.  And now the Draft!  This Thursday @ 8:00 pm the 1st Round of the Draft will be on in prime time and I'll be glued to the television.  This is a very interesting draft class and it's hard to predict who each team will pick, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun trying.  So, based on the opinions of experts and my own uneducated musings (and barring any draft spot trades) here it is, Olie's 2014 Mock Draft:
  1. Houston - Jadeveon Clowney, DE South Carolina - 6'5" and fast, an edge rusher.
  2. St. Louis - Greg Robinson, OT Auburn - walks in as a starting tackle.
  3. Jacksonville - Khalil Mack, LB Buffalo - an explosive talent and a leader.
  4. Cleveland - Sammy Watkins, WR Clemson - a legitimate #1 receiver.
  5. Oakland - Taylor Lewan, OT Michigan - a great zone-blocking tackle.
  6. Atlanta - Jake Matthews, OT Texas A&M - a franchise LT or even a center.
  7. Tampa Bay - Mike Evans, WR Texas A&M - 6'5", big, physical, redzone target.
  8. Minnesota - Blake Bortles, QB Central Florida - big & strong, but unpolished.
  9. Buffalo - Eric Ebron, TE UNC - a fast & athletic receiver-type tight end.
  10. Detroit - Justin Gilbert, CB Alabama - physically gifted cover corner.
  11. Tennessee - Johnney Manziel, QB Texas A&M - 5'11" sandlot style wildcard.
  12. NYG - C.J. Mosley, LB Alabama - a smart & instinctive future Pro-Bowler.
  13. St. Louis - Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S Alabama - tall, lean, strong, and physical.
  14. Chicago - Aaron Donald, DT Pittsburgh - small but scrappy and quick.
  15. Pittsburgh - Darqueze Dennard, CB MSU - a strong, fast press corner.
  16. Dallas - Anthony Barr, LB UCLA - 6'5", a future sack-machine.
  17. Baltimore - Calvin Pryor, S Louisville - an enforcer who hits violently.
  18. NYJ - Marqise Lee, WR USC - a play-making #1 wide receiver.
  19. Miami - Zack Martin, OT Notre Dame - potential LT or interior lineman.
  20. Arizona - Ryan Shazier, LB OSU - very fast outside linebacker.
  21. Green Bay - A. Seferian-Jenkins, TE Washinston - a big potential #1 TE.
  22. Philadelphia - Kelvin Benjamin, WR FSU - a huge big-play receiver.
  23. Kansas City - Brandin Cooks, WR Oregon St. - short, speedy slot guy.
  24. Cincinnati - Bradley Roby, CB OSU - small, speedy, nickle corner.
  25. San Diego - Kyle Fuller, CB VT - a zone corner and great ST guy.
  26. Cleveland - Derek Carr, QB Fresno St. - tough and strong armed.
  27. New Orleans - Odell Beckham Jr., WR LSU - a slot receiver and return man.
  28. Carolina - Davante Adams, WR Fresno St. - a "poor man's Michael Crabtree".
  29. New England - Ra'Shede Hageman, DT Minnesota - 6'6" 310 lbs converted TE.
  30. San Francisco - Demarcus Lawrence, DE Boise St. - an explosive pass-rusher.
  31. Denver - Jason Verrett, CB TCU - 5'9" nickel back with potential.
  32. Seattle - Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG UCLA - great boost for any running game.
Best of the rest: Carlos Hyde RB OSU, Stephon Tuitt DE Notre Dame, Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville, Louis Nix III DT Notre Dame, Donte Moncrief WR Ole Miss, Timmy Jernigan DT FSU, Joel Bitonio OT Nevada, Jimmy Garoppolo QB Eastern Illinois, Kony Ealy DE Missouri.

Notes: St. Louis has two 1st Round picks, one from Washington in the RG3 deal.  Cleveland also has two first rounders after trading RB Trent Richardson to the Colts last season. Consequently, neither Washington nor Indianapolis have a 1st Round pick.

  1. Browns should pass on Watkins (gifted, but diminutive nor fast) & instead take the 6' 5" Evans in your scenario . Although would prefer if Browns could draft Robinson, WR 6' 5" Benjamin at 26, Carr or Bridgewater at 35 if available, if not, best big CB available (6' 1" Baptista possibly), then take QB BROCK JENSEN in 3rd

    1. What Browns fans really want is Kevin Costner to take over the Draft and make some sweet trades for perfect players, lol. I'm rooting for you, Cleveland.
